Guest Vlog Post: A Buddhist Perspective on BP Oil Spill

June 7, 2010

My partner for this round of the Article Swap, the first vlog swap, was Andy from Bayou Buddhists. I asked him to speak about his perspective, a Buddhist perspective, on the oil spill in the Gulf. His response was not only insightful, but a learning experience to say the least. I hope you enjoy it!

You are right, it refers to compassion but also to impermanence. We want the environment to be protected and kept as it is but we act as if it was permanent. Nature is always changing, we just accelerate its destruction.
With compassion, we might slow down the changes and degradation but it would still be impermanent.
Then again, nature adapts itself and changes.

    Good opinion, yours is.
