A suspicious package that arrived at the Nevada Department of Corrections office Tuesday was blown up by the bomb squad and found to contain hundreds of business cards with a Buddhist prayer on them.
Officer William Walker with Capitol Police said a secretary at the prison’s administrative offices at the Stewart Facility on Snyder Avenue became concerned after receiving the small 6-by-8-inch package with no return address and a San Francisco post mark.
The Capitol Police, which handle issues concerning the prison, was called in. Walker said they then called on the Tahoe-Douglas Bomb Squad, which exploded the package with a “small charge” brought in by robot.
The package contained about 200 small cards with a Buddhist prayer written on them along with the statement, “court case dismissed” and a Wikipedia.com definition of what to do with the cards, he said.
“Whatever their intent was, it got blown up with the package. We’re not sure why they sent them or who sent them,” said Walker
The incident is under investigation.
