Tagged by ZenFrog!
I have been tagged by ZenFrog over at http://thezenfrog.wordpress.com. I dropped by his blog to check him out and his blog is full of valuable wisdom. I figured why not give this game a try and see how it works. The rules are simple….
• Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog.
• Share 7 random or weird things about yourself.
• Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs
• Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
So here go the seven random things. This might be hard, I’ve told alot about myself here and there throughout the blog. But I’ll give it a shot, these are more just random things about my childhood than anything else.
1. Back in the 80’s, after being exposed to the Sex Pistols by my older sister, I became so obsessed with Sid Vicious (ask me why now and I couldn’t explain it) that I wore a dog chain with a padlock just like he did. This even carried into the later metal years of my teenage years, when I was obsessed with Guns and Roses, I still wore the chain while rocking Guns and Roses T-shirts. I guess I thought it was ok to combine the two because the Guns and Roses bass player, Duff McKagan, wore a dog chain with padlock as well.
2. I was one of the only kids in my high school to wear a jean jacket with backpatches sewn all over the back. Later on that same jackets was painted on, first with the cover of the Dead Milkmen “Eat Your Paisleys” album, than with the Rollins Band sun symbol, and lastly with the face of Jim Morrison. When the jacket finally went into retirement it was cracking with the layers of paint it had.
3. My parents hated me listening to metal so much my mom would through out tapes as soon as I bought them. After getting sick and tired of having her toss my copies of Slayer’s “Reign In Blood” tape I grew inventive in my approach to hording my metal music. I went out and bought the Slayer tape, again, as well as Bon Jovi’s “Slippery When Wet”. I unscrewed both cassettes, replaced the insides of each one with the other, and when mom threw out what she thought was Slayer, I was dowstiars in my room listening to it on my headphone, triumphantly!
4. Before studying Buddhism, I thought of Buddha as the little fat guy.
5. One of my birthdays, I can’t remember which one, we got to stay up late and watch two movies. I only mention this because the two movies were so different, one being The NeverEnding Story (still one of my favorites to this day) and the first Friday The 13th.
6. One summer my brother and I went to camp. You always here silly stories to stay out the woods cause some nutcase was out there waiting to get you. We didn’t believe those urban legends and ventured forth into the woods one day. He was bending down to tie his sneaker and we heard someone yell at us to get out of the woods. It was the guy we were warned about. He didn’t kill us, obviously, but he did throw a knife (a butter knife at that, not to scary) at my brother. It hit his neck and scratched him. It did scare the crap out of us both though and we ran as fast as we could out of there, untied shoes and all.
7. When I was in high school I wrote alot of poetry. While I don’t do this anymore, I guess I was good at it. We had a career day at school and there was a writer there, Mary LeClair. She has written multiple novels and has done well for herself. My guidance counselor thought I should sit and show her my stuff. I showed her a few poems I had written and she liked them alot. So much, she came back another day to check out my notebook, which I still have. She said she wouldn’t be surprised to see me published one day. That day never came, I stopped writing poetry a long time ago. As a matter of fact, minus some love notes to my wife, this blog is the first thing I’ve written in since high school!
Well there are my seven random thoughts, looking back at them they are very random, so I hope I played the game right. Now onto the seven links to people I will be tagging once this post goes live! I hope they play the game as well, it was fun!
